Making the snakes feel secure in their cage is a very important aspect of husbandry. I try to balance that against making the snakes accommodations easy to maintain and safe for the keeper too. Like a dummy, I look into the 'red can' with a frightened red spitter inside. At least I always wear eye protection when working with any of my spitters.

  • mr viperkeeper

who makes those locks you use on your larger visions. thanks gene

  • @genowenderski Don't know. I buy them with the cages.

  • Mr. Coritz,

I was wondering what your opinion was on those gentle giant tongs? I have always been very reluctant to try tongs for fear of injuring the animal, but I have heard that these have gone a long way to solving that problem? What has been your experience?

  • @CitizenSoldier211 The 'Gentle Giants' Work well and minimize the chance of injury to the animal. I only use them when I have a very uncooperative snake. They work best if you buy some medium grit sand paper with a stick back and past it on the 'spoons' that grab the snake, otherwise they will slither out or you'll have to apply serious pressure and injure the snakes.

  • Hello Al, if you don't mind what happened to Kirk?

  • @2vodca He died a few years back. No snakes were involved.
