This is the first part of the lecture series WagnerWorldWide:Bayreuth (19. October 2011) under the title: "WagnerWorldWide:Bayreuth - An Introduction". The lecture series is the first event of the project WagnerWorldWide 2013 - www2013: under the head of the Research Institute of Music Theatre, Thurnau and the University of Bayreuth, Germany. Anno Mungen gives a general introduction sketching the various features involved in the project, as e.g. nationalism, globalization, media, environment/ nature, gender/ sexuality. He furthermore details the plans for the upcoming events within the next two years.
In the second part, Thomas Betzwieser introduces a case study of reception, i.e. Wagner and Israel, based on the Bayreuth performance of the Israel Chamber Orchestra in summer 2011. He discusses the several paradigms associated to that special case of musical reception.
Very interesting. I look forward to the next presentation. BWM
