I put the Beats By Dre Studios up against some of the better mid-range reference monitors, audiophile sets, and a couple cost friendly phones...

By a landslide the Audio Technica ATH M50s show the beats how its done in every way. better sonic response, comfortable fit, fairly easy to power, nearly 100% flat, BASS that will move your soul and make your moms high school sweetheart cry lol
NO CONS WHATSOEVER!

Second place winner goes to the Sony MDR 7506. amazing flat, highly durable, comfortable fit, great sonic response, and almost 0 sound leakage...
Cons- Cushions can easily deteriorate, highs can be slightly brittle.

Third Place easily goes to the Sennheiser HD555. Sweet audiophile open sound, great sonic response (with Mod), astounding imaging, amazing comfort..
Cons- open back design lets ALOT of sound in, sound a little thin without the mod.

Fourth Place goes to the Sony V700DJ. Great Sonic response, Easily able to play loud without distorting, solid isolation, AMAZING BASS.
Cons- Can feel heavy, circular earcups can be uncomfortable, Can get hot really fast, and overall a little too much bass..

Fifth place go to the Beats By Dre Studios. Comfortable fit, easily portable, head thumping bass, noise cancellation keeps enough noise out during travel to be effective, sweet packaging and carrying case, and most of all one of the best looking headphones on the market; head will turn!
Cons- Noise cancellation is mediocre at best, build quality could be better, too bassy, leak like crazy when volume is too high, and most of all WAYYY Overpriced!

Sixth Place goes to the Sony XB300. Best Comfort around. Deep pounding bass, decent mids and highs, pretty solid build, easily powered, flat cable. Great price.
Cons- Get hot after a while, too bassy at times, can barely be heard in transit.

Last place goes to the Panasonic HTX7. Very sweet sounding. Durable build for price, comfortable, easily powered, trendy look, very nicely priced.
Cons- can sound thin at times, highs are a little on the bright side, cannot be heard outside... PERIOD

Conclusion- While the Beats By Dre certainly pose an upgrade from the apple earbuds we are all used to, they still are way too overpriced. Extreme sound Leakage, an iffy build, and mediocre sound quality are simply not enough to warrant the headphones high price. They are however a great option for style conscious travelers. The noise cancelling while not great does work and provides much needed seclusion for travelers. They receive about a 7.0 out of 10 IMO... worth it if you are looking into it for the reasons I got them though... Just know they are not even touching the ATH M50s, in fact they are not even in the ballpark when it comes to those... cheers!

  • Great video. i went and bought the M50s since all my research pointed in that direction. Had a question though about portable headphones. Can you recommend anything? i ordered the igrado for right now. I am in the market for another pair as a backup.

  • @ykstewart thanks, what are your ears more tuned for bass? or well rounded balanced sound?

  • Sorry, where(website) can i buy replica ath m50 or monsters beats studio headphones? rbt@freemail.hu

  • That was finally a really good video about headphones! I got the beats and they're good enough for me, since i fly quite often and being in the plane is just awesome with them plus they look good :) The only thing that really annoys me about these headphones is, the left side always makes that weird noise when not listeing to music, i think $300 headphones shouldn't be making that noise, they're definitely highly overpriced!!! But as i said it they're perfect for travelling

  • @jathalo I like a balanced sound. if i need more bass i can turn it up.

  • @energeez I guess I can agree with most of what you said... good points...
