Fairly mundane, I think. There are several types of cranesbills, so-called because the seed container, after flowering, has a long pointy bit like a crane's bill. This one is red, so someone called it Bloody.

thnx for the feedback...and the information! So is there any story behind the flower or is it simply a pretty flower? 'Bloody Cranesbill' must have a story surely?

Very enjoyable change from the Fiddle Orchestra version. The "Flower of Portencross" is a wild flower, the Bloody Cranesbill or Geranium Sanguineum (red, not blue) which grows in the rocks near the old pier at Portencross. Flowers June - August. (Flower identity info direct from the composer).
