Its also just really interesting to listening to. I don't really believe in the kill switch or most other conspiracy theories, and do not like Alex Jones.

However, it is a life saver when your power goes out. I've had a couple of different times when the power was out that my shortwave came in handy, both for information and to help relieve boredom.

Go to Best Buy and ask about shortwave. They'll look at you like you're from Mars. (And a "station" or other boat anchor is useless when you need to move fast.)

@istrehn short wave radios have been around since about the 1920s. They operate on frequencies (the upper AM band) that let you hear radio broadcasts from all over the world.....Cuba, England, Germany, Russia etc, etc. They are not like walkie talkies, they are only for listening. This is how people used to get news from all over the world before the internet & computers. If the Internet ever went down in an emergency you could still hear whats going on.

Get an R-390A. a REAL radio, not a cheap toy. Yeah, expensive, heavy, but its mil-spec & a good one will outlive you..
