Hi Barend. You had a lekker skrik when the 18 E hooted. I have had many similar experiences. They do it on purpose.

My earliest memory of South African Railways (as it was called then) was a train travel programme filmed in late 1979 with two or three of these hauling the Blue Train. Fell in love with the place at once!

Now... is this the South African idea of the proper haulage for a regular goods train? I have just seen - again... - your "Full Power", and I must see all this - and the lovely Rovos steam locos, of course - before I die, or I will never rest in peace.

Those sidings are only used to park locomotives and only used a few times a day so there is no need to automate them.
