I can tell you why:
This girl happens to be my dear friend so I know she was asked by the Blizz-Folks to take part in the contest, because they liked her costume so much (it was all handmade and took 2 weeks of hard work and very few hours of sleep).
But because by the rules only Blizzard-Characters can participate, they announced her as a blood elf.
On a side note: she wasn't all to happy about that either, because she's an Ally ;)
