@pyannaguy pretty ironic, Zappa was against commercialism and drugs, and got killed by a helpless addiction to the most commercial drug in history.

could imagine this song in so many movie scenes in my head

Fast-perhaps, but bulbous-I think not. Nice try Captain.

I like more the Take 6 in Mirror Man Sessions, but this is an awesome tune anyway.
Too bad I discovered the Capt. too late :(

yeah, I met Zappa in '74 and he smoked like a stovepipe way back then. He was really skinny standing about ...6'2".

RIP Mister Van Vliet, may you keep on singing up there ... :(

High Folks, Fans should check out "Early Blues Version" of ' Blue Gene Dirty', scorchin'. Saw him 1st at The Whiskey in Hollywood in '78. He vibrates the very atoms. My fave..."Doctor Dark". His darker currents? Indian writer Aurobindo speaks of the "Descent of the Overmind", where all possibilities present themselves, including 'gigantisising' elements of the ego. Don sure had a big message to deliver, and all the rest of his stuff came along for the ride. Dig his paintings too.
There's more originality, depth, range and authenticity in a few Beefheart songs than you can find in a couple of decades worth of trite, derivative pap from an overproduced corporate drone like Madonna.
In a somewhat related note: too bad Zappa couldn't escape cigarettes.
