About 40 people were killed in blasts across Iraq on Thursday. In Anbar province's town of Garma, northwest of Baghdad, at least 20 were killed by an attack on a tribal meeting.

And in Iraq's northern city of Mosul, a car bomb exploded near the provincial governor's office, killing 18 people. The bomb exploded soon after two Katyusha rockets landed near Nineveh Governor Duraid Kashmula's office.
He had just left his office to investigate damage caused by two rockets that landed nearby when the car bomb went off.
Violence in Iraq fell to a four-year low last month, but there have been a spate of attacks in the past week, especially in and around Mosul.
