Video 5 of 7 - Macintosh SE30 SE/30

The SE/30... the Beast...
This machine has 64 or 68 megs of ram, a clean 32-bit rom simm (forget what other machine it came from), the PDS ethernet card, a 1 or 2gb hard drive, and either System 7.5.5 or 7.6.1... When it was last in use, it actually acted as a simple file/ftp/http server.

I recorded this video after already having made a few attempts to boot the machine. Prior to recording, I got the garbled display and no startup bong, hence my surprise when I heard the quirky noise bellow from the speaker... it still had the issue though. I'm hoping it's the standard fix of just needing to replace the capacitors on the motherboard.

not as many as I used to, and these are just the compact macs... i used to have a bunch of '030 machines, '040s, assorted powermacs between 94 and 2000, etc etc... Wipeout wasn't my only hobby, you know ;) lol

It seems like SE/30s are really starting to die off fast due to leaky capacitors. Mine just died with the same screen problem last week. I guess 20 years isn't too bad a lifespan for electrolytic caps. Good thing they're (relatively) easy to replace with modern SMD parts without special equipment! Sounds like you've already fixed a few yourself.
