disasters often offer corrupt governments the opportunity to enrich themselves. The U.N. and World Bank should set up a trust fund to manage the money from donations coming to Haiti.
In the meantime shipping containers can be a safe and cost-efficient way of providing long term shelter which in turn could be optimized by converting the same containers used to food and donated goods into dwellings.
Sorry Shigeru Ban but paper tubes won't do in this type of climate.

gotta insulate them on the ext. so they don't become ovens. also if multi story, gotta anchor one to the others so the don't pancake or topple. seems like some other kind of mass-produced module would work well also.

That's very interesting. I hope you can post some updates as construction continues. I'd like to see what they do for insulation.

I think this baby's furred out for insulation on the outside of the boxes. look closely to see the channels.
