Rockpalast, Germany: EC with the Attractions, plus Afrodiziak and the TKO Horns. In stereo, no less - since I just found a copy of the FM broadcast, to match my old video footage.

Elvis is touring here (Oz) again, soon. I'll give it a miss, even though I used to be a huge fan (and was at the legendary Sydney riot back in '78). It's been quite a while since he impressed me with any new material.

Still, there are glory days to remember (Sydney '78 not the least). Here's EC just when things started to go wrong with his music. At the time, I thought he'd become happy - and hence irrelevant (in terms of his personal style).

  • Another video of an outstanding performance from Mr. Costello and the Rockpalast.

Seriously, the backup singers, the brass; it all fits so fucking perfectly!

  • Unnecessary and totally dominated by how great the musicians are, yes, but off-key? Afrodiziak are on their game here. I agree about that part of the song, though; "the long arm of the law slides up the outskirts of town" is such a fucking wonderful line and it deserves a MICROPHONE.

  • Do ya think you could get your ass back to the fuckin' mic for my favorite part of the song Elvis? And ditch the off key bck, vox. Great song on studio version tho, no doubt. In fact, from my fave EC LP., Trust.

  • @biggerfish66

    Thanks.

  • @OSDCrusher

The song they played before "Clubland" was "Beyond Belief".

  • What song were they playing before this? I've never heard organ playing like that in an Elvis Costello song.

  • favorite song of costello's so far, and great vers.
