Doctors use x-rays to view internal organs, obtain clear images of possible disease and to treat cancer. For years, radiation has been used to save lives, but there is growing concern that some patients are getting more than they ask for when they undergo what's called a CT (Computed Tomography) scan. Research has shown that exposure to radiation can cause cancer. VOA's Melinda Smith has details on recent studies that raise doubts about the safety of CT Scans.

  • so it's the patients responsibility to determine how much radiation they're exposed to? i think i understand how this works. it's not the manufacturers responsibilty so they point the finger at the technician. the technician points the finger at the manufacturer. the FDA just ignores the whole problem and does nothing and end the end the media is told that it is the patients fault. LOL! you people are insane.

  • I had some sort of stomach virus right after my CAT scan. I thought it might be radiation induced. This business needs to be made as obsolete as video stores. We want advanced MRI scan technology, or something else. I pray we will find better diagnostic tools soon. Meanwhile, I guess we should be made to feel stupid for even questioning the technology.
