I love that they are either wearing very modest hoops or no hoops at all for a performance. It adds to the billowing splendor of the dance without drawing inelegant attention to their skirts.

@10RexTheWolf01 It is indeed a very old word. It is an anglicized from the Latin quatre or a set of four. It refers to a dance set with four couples.
