This slow moving video shows exactly how the commute through Totem Lake in Kirkland, Washington would be slowed down by a train crossing through the Totem Lake intersection.

Traveling to a business appointment, I had an unexpected opportunity to see how a train crossing through the Totem Lake intersection would impact street traffic. This video was shot at 12:50 on a Friday afternoon, non rush hour. I was the first car in line at the stop light and it took me four minutes to cross the intersection!

The trains can't go faster than 25-30 miles along this line, which some people are trying to turn into a commuter line. There are a total of 53 intersections a commuter train would cross and this is one of the busiest.

Imagine how long it would take to make it through this intersection during rush hour, when many more cars would be lining up. Would a commuter train increase the commute through this busy intersection by 10 or 15 minutes? I think it's a real possibility.

  • Damn you're a lazy bitch.

  • Having a commuter train would reduce the traffic on the roads at rush hour. You complain about traffic, yet oppose a mass transit solution?

  • You poor thing.... you had to wait an extra 3 mins. If you needed to get to an appointment then you should have LEFT SOONER!!!!!

Don't leave your house for an appointment 10 mins before you need to be there.

your an adult, show some fucking responsibility.

Additionally I have lived in Totem Lake for 20 years and the dinner train no longer runs on these tracks, so you bitching about being delayed by a freight train that uses these tracks maybe once a month is unwarranted.

    B-I-T-C-H !!!!!!

  • oh my god!!!!!! I'm so sorry your important live has been inconvenienced! Trains should be eradicated from such places like this. That way all the freight can travel on semi-trucks and make you commute that much quicker!
