His appearance doesn't fit the joker? Nicholson's grin is the closest an actual human being can come to mimicking a comic book character's like the Joker. Not to mention that his acting was superb. His interpretation of the role was simply different; not better or worse, just different. I guess if you weren't born when the original Batman came out in theaters a comment like yours is excusable but next time try analyzing a villain that closer to your level of expertise like Voldemort.

Some people are nostalgic about the Jack Nicholson Joker some say they're different you can't compare them most say ledgers joker is better(I actually fall into that category but don't feel like debating it but I could if I wanted to. Oh and fyi I grew up with Batman the Jack Nicholson version. Just in case you say I'm too young to know or something like that.)

But I think we can all agree on one thing The Joker=One of the Greatest comic book villains of all time.

@Citan1981 I have played parts and that, to me, is just the ol crazy semi-kids-cartoon version of him. I mean yes, its darker, but to me he comes off as annoying whereas DK Joker was true a sociopath kind of person. I guess its just cause sociopaths are real and the over the top jokers wouldnt workout irl.

Ledger as the Joker was good, but I think Nicholson nailed that role of the Joker in the 89 movie. He had that mix of funny, whimsical, yet cynical, and psychotic villain. Cartoon Joker Ill take Hamill in the animated series and Batman AA. DiMaggio was also very good as the Joker in Under the Red Hood.

To me, the dark knight is the only time the joker has ever been scary. Thumbs up if you agree!

@IwantFreeBooze actually, the dark knights joker is only darker in personality as the director wanted to focus on how mentally disturbed he was. This resulted in being scarier. Other than that, the original joker was a psychopath who only cared for chaos, violent chaos. The Joker in the 60's tv series is very timid compared to when he first showed up in comics. It wasn't untill recent times that the joker started to be the psychopath that he was supposed to be. Look up the wiki, you'll see.
