This GEM of a show never had a chance...this is perhaps the nastiest review I have ever seen of a new musical by the NY press. Recorded in 1988 during previews of CARRIE THE MUSICAL.

AH! Fun fact Kiddies! The critic here is the wife of Joe Raposo who created another wack-out musical flop of the 80's the deeply dusturbing Raggedy Ann! I would love to hear her review on that production.

GOD!!! These people are So annoying!! Just because it was based on the same book as a horror film doesn't mean it has to be all about the horror it's allowed to be different as long as the basic plot is the same!
Sure it wasn't perfect but they didn't even mention how beautiful the duets between Carrie & her mother were!!
It focuses on the a withdrawn teenager who feels shunned by the world & by her beliefs and the pressure on ordinary teens to behave a certain way in school. NOT MURDER!

Oh the revised version is much better... And I definitely think what harmed the show was addition of Debbie Allan... Because suddenly it became all about dance... And of course the direct Terry Hands and his fucked up Greek Tragedy vision...
I just think that what the Composes and Writer had originally was promising, of course needed changed a bit, but it could've been good... Most of the bad songs were added one Debbie Allan came on board... Like Wotta Night... Uuuugh
