A little background on this one, in case you're wondering... Back in the day in coal country, the miners shopped at company stores and lived in company-owned housing. When a miner died, a horse-drawn hearse called a Black Maria carted the deceased off to the graveyard. The cold reality was that the miner's family would be evicted from their house the next day.

That was a tough breed of people back then, and this song is a tribute to one of them.
