Lots of instructors, videos, singing tutorials, talk about warming up the voice but almost none talk about what do you AFTER you sing. Warming down the voice is just as important - if not more so - than warming up the voice for long term health of the singer.

Here are a few free tips & exercises to warm down after a performance or even a tough practice routine.

  • should i try to cool down my voice even if its not scratchy? because sometimes when i sing for 15 or 20 minutes my voice feels fine but i'm not sure if i'm damaging it or not

  • @lpfanatik188 - singing for 15-20min doesn't really require a cool down unless that 15-20min is full on metal singing/screaming.

Cool down anyway to ease your voice back into speech.

  • Will drinking water help, too? I mean, I presume it does, but I might as well get your professional comment.

  • @AtariMaxiToriyama - drinking lots of water helps no matter what. Its a singer's best friend. Water doesn't warm up your voice but helps keep your voice moist and hydrated.

  • i've always found the vocal fry on a low note a good warm down, however these are also helpful! once again thanks Kevin!

  • @themcdaveee - vocal fry on the vowel sound "eee" is also an effective warm down. The closure of "eee" helps realign the vocal cords.

  • This was a great video, I use these to warm down often.

  • @RocktheStageNYC okay. thanks. i was just curious because sometimes i get a bit of a sore throat. i didn't know if that had anything to do with it.

  • Thank you very much for your advise online. Im a soprano who used to sing melodyc and gothic metal but the band that hired me this time wishes to play more like the 80's heavy metal. I had a though time figuring out the "metal bite" and similar stuff....until i watched you online... thank you again!!!!

  • How, these techniques work great! Before watching this video I was singing while doing some chores and I noticed my voice was feeling strained and tired. I've seen this video before but had forgot what to do, so I watched it again and did what you said. My voice feels fine now.
