Considering how ridiculously difficult 6-A and 6-B were (I forgot to mention that none of the levels in Stage 6 have checkpoints in mid-level) 6-C is nearly laughably easy. All you NEED to do is keep moving, otherwise you wont have enough time to kill Big Boy.

The game is horribly difficult and I would say it's cheating the gamer. You have to know PRECISELY what to do every second and every pixel of the later levels, there is not much room for a failed jump or a badly-timed shot, and there is NO WAY a mere human could beat the game on his or her 1st, 2nd... hell, even 100th try.
I guess the ending is what it is because the developers didn't think anyone would see it. "Let's just not even try to make a meaningful ending, nobody will ever get there. Why bother?"

But after finishing Dick Tracy, the ending isn't what you really think about so it doesn't matter much. You just finished probably the most diffcult game conceived, what do you care about Tracy nabbing Big Boy. You're the man now, and the man doesn't need endings to make it all worth it.

I played this with the help from save states and still it was one of my biggest struggles, coming up 2nd in my most amazing gaming achievements list, right after Jigo. If there is anyone who finished this on the original Sega Genesis or Mega Drive, then I wonder, how many failed playthroughs and how many years of daily practice did it take?

  • My brother and I completed this game only a few months after its release. Yes, it was difficult, but I don't think it's anywhere near as difficult as you claim, at least not when you're a child and far more willing to "deal" with learning a game's ins and outs without realizing that they're a result of unfair game design. I also completed Superman for Genesis, and that game was far less forgiving than this one, but I would never be able to do so now as an adult who wouldn't have the patience.

  • @tightlypackedcoil When you die from only a couple of hits and you get hit anytime you don't shoot the enemy the split second he appears on screen, and you only have about 10 spare seconds to finish the level even when you do a near perfect run, I call it difficult. I was playing on Hard, though.

And I don't think Dick Tracy is difficult due to unfair game design, it's just all about having superhuman reflexes.

  • @JohnnyDFox I can't help but feel you missed the point of my post. I agree that the game is difficult, but I was merely pointing out that as a child I found myself more willing to deal with the challenge as I really didn't know any better. Superman for Genesis, for instance, is one of those games where you cannot avoid taking damage in some parts (what some might call "cheap"). While I cannot tolerate such annoyances now as an adult, I sort of learned to accept them as a kid.

  • @tightlypackedcoil I was mostly replying to the part "I don't think it's anywhere near as difficult as you claim". It still is as difficult as I claim, whether or not it seemed slightly easier when we were kids. In these modern times the game doesn't seem difficult, but outright impossible.

  • Does anyone have the BGM to this stage?

  • Good playtrough, and Dick Tracy is really difficult.

That put, I can say, with hapiness, that I could beat this game in the original Sega Genesis, and yes, it took lotsa of efforts!

  • GG!

  • I both played and completed this as a child. Oh yes it was frustratingly difficult and took me a couple of years to finally crack it, but as im sure you all remember, as kids your amazingly persistant when it comes to games. You just keep on trying!

  • I'VE NEVER PLAYED THIS BEFORE OR KNEW IT EXISTED

  • @vampirekoopa Not really...
