Well you can't deny that the industry look for image and likeness. It makes the job alot "easier" if bands fit into some kinda injection mold cast rather than be controversial like Ozzy or someone was in the early 80's. Country club cookie-cutter mentality. There are too many people looking for a personality profile template and not the organic substance that *MAKES* someone ORIGINAL. Marginal doesn't butter bread, "I -can't-believe-we're-not" rock stars.

I've commissioned 12 videos to date and been management, record company and band member at different points in my life. Bands do not make videos they don't want to make. They approve the concept, the edits and the final product. It's not some evil 'Record Co' bosses planning the ejection of band members. Members leaving bands is 9/10 a right pain in the arse for the record company and costs them cash.

They don't? Wow, coulda fooled me. Yes, for youtube purposes you are correct but generally speaking if you are trying to get sold at all, 9/10 times the artists are going to be like Steve Perry in his solo video for "Oh Sherrie" off Street Talk and everyone around them are going to be more seeing what one another are saying and responding with "right, ok" and arguing over when 'bosses' can see results for the MONEY they put INTO the project to GET made.

only problem with your conclusions are that the video concept are born in the mind of a video director who has nothing to do with the record company whatsoever. He and the band come up with an idea and a video is born. The label company 'bosses' have little or no input into video concept or execution.

Huh? I'm saying the truth. I don't mean everyone everywhere is sitting there grinding teeth and passing the alka-seltzer around. In general, the industry reminds me of the boardroom meeting in the movie "Big" where the Dad from Home Alone is being a jerk saying "I don't get it" when Tom Hanks has a good idea. All of a sudden, guess what? Yup, Home Alone Dad says hey what if we (insert altered Josh Baskin idea here). *Rolls eyes*
