Wars In Peace: Afghanistan

The Soviet War in Afghanistan, also known as the SovietAfghan War, was a nine-year conflict involving the Soviet Union, supporting the Marxist government of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan at their own request, against the Islamist Mujahideen Resistance. The mujahideen found other support from a variety of sources including the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt and other Muslim nations through the context of the Cold War.

The initial Soviet deployment of the 40th Army in Afghanistan began on December 24, 1979 under Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. The final troop withdrawal started on May 15, 1988, and ended on February 15, 1989 under the last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Due to the interminable nature of the war, the conflict in Afghanistan has often been referred to as the Soviets' Vietnam; the analogy compares the conflict to America's role in the Vietnam War.

  • Interesting watching... the greater shame is that Western Military Intelligence did not watch and learn from documentary like this before going in.

  • This was well put together with great footage.

I love the older documentaries, the new history channel and bbc ones repeat themselves as if to suggest the audience have the memories of fish.

My favourite part was the mujaheddin dog swimming across the river.

  • @afg96 , wow, ur a moron ,,, i think u don't know what i have written before... i know whats going on , i agree with ur points...

  • Good documentary. shows both sides. and is not Pro West or Pro Soviet

  • @Hperman09 , THE TRUTH IS DECEPTION... THESE BASTARDS USE DECEPTION WITH THEIR PROPAGANDA TO OCCUPY AND STEAL . THEY SPEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THEIR PROPAGANDA TO CONVINCE YOU THAT THEY ARE FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT. BUT ITS BULLSHIT. THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR OWN INTERESTS , WEATHER ITS GEO-STRATEGIC WARFARE OR NATURAL RESOURCES THAT THEY WANT.. ITS FOR MAKING MONEY , NOT LIBERATING OR GIVING DEMOCRACY.. OR HELPING IN ANY SORT OF WAY.

  • @AmericanDroogie , ahahaha, thanks for wasting my time ..

  • @UNJUSTIFICATION1 I don't know what the person said, and I don't know what the arguement is about, but I would like to say that if you're going to call some one an idiot and a little kid, atleast spell out entire words like "you" and "are" when saying this because it makes you look just as bad. That was bothering me. Sorry to be a grammer nazi, that is all. *Salutes*

  • @syedm90 yes we and whole world see's immunity LoL with the drone attacks, and the wikileaks stop living in fantasy world, start facing the facts. As for organised ur organised for genocides and terror attacks not for constructive activities, and as for strength real strength lies not going to war and winning hearts and minds, we know what west thinks of pakistanis, people in US, UK and all developed nations don't even like to sit next to people from Pakistan, thinking them as terrrorists.

  • @amit79ful No, you were talking about governments and I proved by wrong by pointing out that there was a lot more to a country's influence and structure than its government. If you know anything about Pakistan you know that the military and the ISI are the actual puppeteers. Organized? Yes. Strong? Yes. Immune from foreign influence? Yes.

  • @syedm90 you seem to be naive about civilised world, i was talking about civilised responsible goverments not bunch of thugs.
