A pair of hatchery coho spawning in the wild on November 21, 2007, in Green Cove Creek, Thurston County, Washington. The male coho in the foreground is a "jack" and is quite smaller than the female in the background. The male shudders and gapes as he releases sperm, or "milt," into the nest or "redd" that the female has created in the stream gravels.
