  • People dont realize that if it werent for Dave there wouldnt be any Conan Obriens there wouldnt be any Craig Fergusons or Jimmy Fallons....Dave made late night what is it today

  • I have to say I like old and new Dave, watching the reruns... I just think either way he's unique among the late night hosts because he's the one who doesn't TRY to be Mr. Nice Guy... he's ani-social, he knows it, we know it-

And we all love him for it.

And he and Craig Ferguson make the BEST team in Late Night TV... the so-spiteful-and-charged-it's-AWESOME Dave humor and then the fun, let's-just-do-whatever-and-have-fun Craig.

But I wish I could've seen Johnny in my lifetime... :(

  • I remember Bob Dylan being very sloppy on this show. I saw him in Knoxville not long after and he was about the same way. Horrible concert. They made fun of Bob on the radio the morning after this show aired.

  • I could say this is around the time the show was starting to lose its edge. the studio startede to seem less laid back and the show was slowly starting to morphed into the LATE SHOW before he went to CBS

  • 6:45 Similar Cip as in the Late Shift

  • He should do more of these shows!!!!

  • I wonder what Warren Littlefield thinks whenever he watches this...

  • I know I have already commented but thanks Dave!! What a performance that makes you wonder where television has gone......

  • @WestVirginiaRebel was it CBS that changed him or was it age? he is in his 60's now... when he started at cbs he was in his early 40's and when he was at nbc he was in his 30's. so... can we expect an 30 year olds talk show to be the same as an 60 year olds talk show?

  • You could say this was Classic Dave's last hurrah. CBS just changed him over the years.

  • Johnny was cool, funny, and collected. He knew how to interview guests and be this funny charming man. Dave took a lot of that and he has become such an icon because of it.

  • If it was not for Johnny Carson there would be no David Letterman. So Dave and Johnny made late night. Dave made the "anti-talk" show cool and Conan and Jimmy have joined form as they have hosted Late Night and done it so well. I watch their act and all 3 of them remind me so much of Dave.
