-Part 12 (of 13)-

U.S. President Richard Nixon's funeral service from April 1994 (complete).

In this segment, Rev. Billy Graham says a final few words over Nixon's casket before burial, as Nixon's family and the living former presidents stand by the gravesite. Two twenty-one-gun salutes are given to the former president and Navy officer, and Taps is played by a military bugler.

Reporters Ted Koppel, Barbara Walters, and Jim Wooten periodically comment on the ceremonies and on Nixon throughout the funeral. Historian Stephen Ambrose joins them on occasion. The five then living presidents and first ladies (Gerald and Betty Ford, Jimmy and Roselynn Carter, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, George and Barbara Bush, and Bill and Hillary Clinton), as well as President Nixon's family members (his daughters Julie Nixon Eisenhower and Tricia Nixon Cox and his sons-in-law and grandchildren), can be seen frequently during the ceremonies.

  • great president! he did make the watergate mistake but he was a great president who really cared for this country

  • Here's something to think about. By foregoing the honor of a state funeral in Washington, which he deserved, Nixon instead chose to have the funeral at his library where he was born. BY doing this, he forced the political elite to finally come to him instead of the other way around. And presiding over his funeral was the sitting president(Clinton) who's wife had worked for the committee that voted to impeach him.

Nixon was a crafty man to the end.

  • @jrm523 The other videos made it feel like he was still alive

  • 4:27, that is me - 3rd from the right. I had the great privilege and honor to perform the volleys at this funeral along with the rest of the wonderful service men & women there that day. It is definitely a day I will never forget. It is wonderful that this can be seen like this. I had it on VHS, but the tape didn't make it.

  • Boy Ted Koppel likes the sound of his own voice, talking through honors

  • i think its amazing all those 21 shots missed people ! thats a miracle. If I was able to, I would have voted to have President Nixon and Reagan as joint Presidents for life. The courage, strength, tenacity, leadership and righteousness this man possessed cannot and never will be repeated ! watch my ardent pro nixon videos

  • My 87 years old Grandmother travelled to San Clemente to attend President Nixon's funeral. She was very disappointed to have been turned away as uninvited. She returned the next day as one of the mourners that filed by his grave.

Just out of high school in the first election cycle after the adoption of The 26th Amendment, President Nixon was the first President that I ever voted for. I have never regretted it.
