  • Felix as 18 when he wrote this. What were we doing when we were 18?

  • I read in Guarneri Quartet first violinist Arnold Steinhardt's wonderful book about the Guarneri, "Invidivisible by Four" that Mendelssohn wrote this after soaking up Beethoven's op. 132 quartet in A minor. It was his statement about Beethoven's work.
