Democracy NOW! - DN! - The distinguished scholar and best-selling author Chalmers Johnson has died. He passed away in California on Saturday afternoon at the age of 79. During the Cold War he served as a consultant to the CIA and was a supporter of the Vietnam War, he later became a leading critic of American militarism and imperialism. He wrote "Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire" in 2000, which became a bestseller after the 9/11 attacks. He went on to complete what would become a trilogy about American empire. Today we re-air part of our last interview with Chalmers Johnson from 2007. • How do you put into words, the greatness of a man that had a profound impact in the vision of the truth movement? Many eyes were opened by the straight forward truth that this great man brought to light. No one has had the ability to get straight to the point as has Chalmers Johnson. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten. History will remember him well.

  • @Sundrumify - Thanks for sharing this. I will also light a candle for him and when they are ready, I will introduce my children to his straight to the point logic. If people of wisdom such as Chalmers Johnson taught in Universities, our World would look very different today. We have lost a great scholar...

  • I don't know what to say. I feel like I lost a close friend. I was online last night, doing a google seach of Chalmers Johnson. As usual, I wanted to send info and links on him, to someone who was not familiar with his writings, and intrellect. So there i come upon his obituary. I am so sad.

Thank YOU for responding and could not agree more. Thus people like Chalmers should already teach in secondary school so that young people are not influenced books which try to rewrite history, more so learn from the reality. Blessed i was that my father taught me. The International Declaration of Human Rights and the universally applicable values those imply should also be taught in schools. We have lost a great scholar, but not his legacy! We need to be the change we want to see!!

  • RIP - the candle of truth dims...first Howard Zinn, now Chalmers Johnson.

  • RIP for him. I watched this "the rebirth of an empire" months ago in you tube. the trial video. just few days ago. i encounter the same video, that i seems watched before. and the next few days i watched again. and i decided to know who is he. and i look for Wikipedia. OMG i am so shocked. he pased away 3 days ago...

    god bless him

  • RIP Chalmers, another freedom fighter passes on.

We need young blood to carry on the torch! Soon we'll lose Noam too!
