Tribute to my Rainbow Lorikeet, Zellkai

A tribute to my gorgeous bird who passed away a couple of days ago. He did so much for me and left this world too soon. Unfortunately compressing the video has really stuffed up the sound. I'll try to fix it later.

Thank you for everything, what a privilege it was to know you. There was so much more time I wanted to spend with you.

You have me in tears right now. This is so hard to watch. You loved him so much. God I love my 2 Rainbow Lorikeets Max and Ringo. Ringo is a female. I love them with all my hart and I would die for them too. God I am so sorry four your loss. I do not wont the same thing to happen to mine. How do I protect my birds from this? :((

@58Clams Zell died from a virus caught from another rainbow lorikeet. To keep your birds safe, if you've been to a pet shop or somewhere that has birds (especially lorikeets or cockatoos), immediately have a shower and change your clothes when you get home. Zell died because I failed to do this one day. Also lorikeets are very messy so routinely change their newspaper, remove uneaten fruits, and clean their cage. That should help. I now have 2 lorikeets Axel and Loki who I love very much!

He died from a virus called Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome.

I love my lorikeet. Id hate to loose him that way too. Sorry about your loss. Did you have him clipped or did he fly around your home?

He was usually clipped and I would have him flighted for a few weeks before clipping him again. His behaviour and how he got around didn't appear any different whether he was clipped or not. Although he would fly into trouble and nearly hurt himself when he was flighted. :P

I'm getting another lorikeet and am thinking of leaving him flighted, or maybe semi-clipped.

Yur lorri reminded me so much of my own.. I know exactly how it feels to loose such a wonderful bird.. They become more then just a bird mine was my best friend.. I can only imagine that yours was the same xo

naww this is so sad. I have a rainbow lorikeet of my own and mine is learning to say hello and sounds exactly as your bird did. i did end up crying because i love my lorikeet buddy and i would hate to lose him like that.. your bird seemed very smart and i hope to teach mine the same tricks as yours. <3

I came back to watch Zellkai He was so sweet. I have my two Lorikeets out with me right now. Both are playing. Max just said ( what chu doin, I reply d watching this. Then he said.. that's all right. Max is so much like Zellkai. I'm glad that you have 2 others now. All the best to you and your new babies. Bye :-}
