could it also be classical conditioning also looking at the efects of 'chance association' as the behaviour of turning it's head is reinforced by the giving of rewards?

Allow PBS to explain:
"Unlike Pavlov's "classical conditioning," where an existing behavior (salivating for food) is shaped by associating it with a new stimulus (ringing of a metronome), operant conditioning is the rewarding of a partial behavior or a random act that approaches the desired behavior. Operant conditioning can be used to shape behavior."

The point is not to prove the fact that animals can learn but to study how they learn the things and later apply the results to humans. Operant conditioning(shown in this vid) is one of the many forms of learning that are studied in psychology.

there is also classical conditioning. both these conditions come under the learning theory by Donnard And Miller!

Some of the things exposed are obvious right now, but in Skinner's time many respected scientists laughed at those ideas. Same thing happened to Freud.
