This is a picture taken by Lensman Jerry Schatzberg in '65. Dylan went to Schatzberg's studio and just hung out taking pictures with what was around. In this picture Dylan is holding a crucifix sculpture made by Paul Von Ringleheim.
It is a crucifix, but it is an artistic rendition from the sixties, so of course it doesn't look like a conventional crucifix.
Amazing, but I'm glad he went with a more elegiac tone for the finished version.
