I love the idea about just placing the mat over the portion of the die you're going to use. This also saves on mats tremendously!

Hi, you can use the 6 inch dies on a Sizzix by shaving 1/4 inch off of the side with a saw. My son did this for me and it works well. I don't know about a Cuttlebug, though. There is a Sizzix video that shows you how to do it. But I finally bought a GO when it went on sale for $199. It was worth it. Hope this helps.

OMG I want one of those but sadly way out of price range. I wonder do you think the dies would work on a Cuttlebug?
