This song was a "Hitbound" the week of August 4, 1971 according to a 93 KHJ top 30 servey. Anybody that was into top popular music back then growing up in Los Angeles well remember "Boss Radio"
-
I was fortunate. I lived in Rockford, IL, near Chicago, where all the NC6 records received much air time over WLS Chicago.

This is a great song with a really good catch line "Roll On Roll On We've Got So Much Going On" but I never heard it in 1971 because the pop stations like KHJ and KRLA just concentrated on the top 30 so I wish it have gone from regional to national and hit the top 30.

Songs I remember as my favorite hits between May and September of 1971 are more of the Soul (black) groups including:
I Know I'm In Love - Chee Chee and Peppy
Want Ads - Honey Cone
Nathan Jones - The Supremes
Right On the Tip of My Tongue - Brenda and the Tabulations
Mr. Big Stuff - Jean Knight
Bless You - Martha Reeves and the Vandellas
and not black:
High Time We Went - Joe Cocker
Of course, Carol King - It's Too Late dominated the charts that year, but I never cared for that song.

This song was a Billboard Hit At #56. I Played It On My Oldies Radio Show Just Last Night. I Always Say It Sounds Like A 70s Bubblegum Record, In A Good Way.
Wow! Chicago In The Mid-60s, What A Great Scene!! Chart Records By The Buckinghams, American Breed, Shadows Of Knight, Cryan' Shames. All Promoted On Commercial Radio, Too!!

was this used for ban rollon deodorant

Made it up to #10 on BIG 10 WCFL. In my opinion, this is the best example of what Chicago Bands sounded like!!! Superb post. Thanks
-
what a memory...........thanks

I also listened to the NC6 on WOKY in the late 60's. Only came in after sundown though in northern Wisconsin along with WLS chicago...oh, how us kids would ride around til then begging for sundown, to hear our favorite songs.

WOKY mighty 92..my old stomping grounds!

What a great record! Takes me back to the fall of '71 when we did have so much goin' on. This song formed the soundtrack of that time for me and my love.

Here's a game I like to play when a record like this triggers a long-lost memory. I'll mention a few other similar records from the same time, and anyone who wants to play will say the first thing that comes into their mind - person, place or event - when they think of those records. Then, they list a few of their own... Here's my list:

I'm Comin' Home - Tommy James
I've Found Someone of My Own - Free Movement
Rings - Cymmaron
Tired of Being Alone - Al Green

One minor correction.- "Roll On" was released on the SUNLIGHT label, not "SUNSET".
Yep, The New Colony Six released singles up until 1974...Longer than any of their rival local bands of the 1960's.- As a matter of fact, The New Colony Six STILL sings "Roll On"
in their current day performances.

That's what I get for trusting the web instead of digging out the single again myself! Thanks! Would love to hear them live again. It's been 39 years.
