A windy final onto WST 32 in a Piper Cherokee 140.

Note to current pilots in training, corrections have to made constantly and when dealing with crosswind. If you have any questions about flying or landing, just ask. Happy flying!

  • i'm training for my ppl in a cherokee 140 right now... things a pain in the ass in wind, requires a lot of fine tuning with the rudder

  • @AnthonyMac16: Yeah no kidding...get your dancing shoes on :)

  • @AnthonyMac16 I am about to start my training for my ppl in a cherokee 140, would you recomend it?... even though you say its tuff in the wind, this could be good, because it teaches you beter. right?

  • @rufus324 I've flown both the Cherokee and the C-172 and I think that the 140 is a better plane (some would disagree). The low wing aspect is perfect for dealing with any situations and starting out training with a good amount of wind is helpful too. I've done more flying in dicey wind conditions than no wind at all and I'm glad I had those opportunities; I'm sure you will too. Have fun out there and fly safe.

  • I wanna be a navy fighter pilot.

  • what i hate about the cherokee is that it is basically a toy airplane in a hurricane no matter where you fly it

  • @AnthonyMac16 I bet you already got you PPL by now.Yea Cherokee 140s are a pain in x-wind landings but not as much as high wings like C172. In my opinion, 140s are easier on x-wind approach than 172s but harder on touch down. As soon as you pull throttle on 140s, it feels like you're flying a damn brick. Their sink rate is nuts compare to c172s but beneficial on x-wind.

Trained on C172 but wants 140s

  • I have owned two Cherokees and flown quite a few planes. The Cherokee140 is a great little plane (albeit a little under powered) and I would prefer a Cherokee than a Cessna in wind.

  • I sort of remember Palm Springs (KPSP) and Thermal, calif. (KTRM) for wind on a summer afternoon. Years ago, but my teeth are still loose :-)

I agree with the comment about the PA28 being stable and easy to slip to a landing.

  • The 140 is a Kitten in crosswinds if you slip it. Very stable.
