Part 5.

In this tutorial, I'm showing two techniques how to edit the vertical down view, or "nadir". You mostly need this to remove the tripod from your image, or when you have some unwanted lens flare in the image (like here).

The first technique involves PTGui and two useful templates by Erik Krause (http://www.erik-krause.de/ttt/index.htm, very bottom of page), the second one uses a droplet from the KRPano Tools (http://www.krpano.com).

The final outcome can be seen here on 360cities.net:

  • Great tutorials! I've been working on 360 picture that's very complicated and would like to edit the ceiling of a room. Do you know if there is a template to extract and insert a Roof? Thanks!!

  • @robertkitto Just use the templates I'm referring to in the videos, but after applying the extract_floor template, go to the "Image Parameters" tab (you may first have to switch to "Advanced mode in the first tab"...), then change the "Pitch" field from -90 to 90 and proceed as shown in the video.

Then, to re-insert, proceed again as in the video, except that after applying the template go again to the "Image Parameters" tab and change the pitch from -90 to 90...

  • Same, you just need more shots . . .

  • I usually don't have any (or only very little) "self-shadow issues" because I shoot most of my panos with the "string technique" (philepod pitch variation technique, see first tutorial).

Also, in tricky situations I usually shoot a 5th image for the nadir to do away with the Peleng's flare issues and also, in cases, to remove my own shadow. This image is shot slightly offset so that if I do cast a shadow, it's in an area that is shadow-free in the other images.

  • @elfloz Thanks for getting back to me! I'll give that a go. Cheers :)

  • thanks so much! i learn a lot about panaromic now. By the way your such a great teacher, you should open courses.

  • Thanks for your tutorials, they are great and very well explained.

This vid "how to edit the nadir" is very useful as well, for getting professional results. Kind regards.

  • helo sir can u teach me?

  • How do panoramas look if you use a 14 mm fisheye lens?

  • Hallo Florian,
