@yootmannt South Melbourne used to sing to the Notre Dame March as well, and they were a foundation member of the VFL back in 1897...
No idea when they started using the tune, but it was a long time before 1982.
Sydney actually tried to adopt, "Up There with Sydney", but it didn't work...

Classic. Singing about being happy at Cumberland meanwhile the fans were heading over to burn it down. I was at the game, on the hill, wearing an old parra jersey (all stripes) pissed as a newt. Later, somehow I was at Cumberland Oval sitting by a fire in front of the old scoreboard at the southern end. I had a piece of molten aluminium goal post but I lost it. A buch of guys pushed the goalposts down and they landed in the fire. What a great occasion. Parra Stadium doesn't rate with Cumberland.
