Why not allow people who are tired of living, give them a place to die-peacefully surrounded by beautiful image's of this world in its Prime? Are we not already over-populated as it is?? No-one should ever have the authority to decide who lives or dies . . Ultimately it is up to each individual to decide that for themselves . . as is shown in this movie. Now if we have to eat-them, after the fact, to survive, well . . . hahahhaaha!!!

@VidkunQL I agree with you the movie of course never makes that point clear of what would happen indeed there would be panic for food and probably even start having the old forced to the Soylent plants openly and eventually start breeding the mass of the poor to reduce the population to a more manageable level that could be controlled. As for the wealthy well we know they would fair well enough to endure the military start the purge. I'm surprised the movie even has civilian police!

For Both Robinson and Heston this movie short was a TOTAL surprise and he emotions were VERY real as they watched this segment and repeated their lines.

@duqmiguel oh wow... you're sooo deep. yup, humanity evil, uh huh... that isn't original at all. And no offense, but it gets ANNOYING when every person here thinks they are being some sort of genius and profit by watching a movie. Thinking this "MOVIE" (fiction) will come true. If anything, humanity is advancing is science and medicine. Much less have died from wars then before, and many countries are turning to more green fuel sources. (us too but slowly) stop being pessimistic cause of a movie

i'm not kiding. on my funeral i want exactly this: and NO preaching!! it moved my to tears always again.
I heard that Charlton's tears were real in that scene, Edward g. Robinson was really dying of cancer and only told charlton about it.
