Curious about something new? Then don´t miss the probably most different German short movie 2010!
MIRA83 is a never before seen short film experiment - a mixture of autobiography, documentary and fiction playing with realities.
2 friends meet in Berlin. He is a passionate filmmaker, she is just
being herself. Both are waiting for their order in a restaurant in Neukölln while she starts talking him through her life. An extremely dramatic "Run-Away-Story" about a too early coming of age and fatefull happenings that he just knows from TV. He believed knowing her very well but the story seems just unreal. He can´t get the dialogue out of his mind and asks her to turn it into film, she agrees.
René Eckert risks directing an unprecedented experiment - a cinematic reproduction of the situation.
No one of the team knew the story that would be told. Not even Raik who had been casted on the street to act as the dialogue partner, playing René got to know anything before getting pushed in the dialogue situation in front of the cameras.
The experiment succeeded.
To get an impression about the production behind the scenes Blickinsfreie released MIRA83/2. The movie gives a deeper understanding of the experiment and the background of all people involved.

VOICES
"René Eckert's film, MIRA83 doesn't belong to any existing genre, so he made up his own: "An experiment with reality." He structured the story and color of the film like Russian nesting dolls, craftily packed, so that the traits of the film are similar to those of a rubik cube.
From the top-- the director steps in front of the camera and hints at a socio-political story which fascinated him when he heard it for the first time; so he started a search for one person who can produce a similar reaction to the same story. In a third step, this reaction is interpreted and transferred to the silver screen.
The outermost nesting doll colorfully depicts what seems to be reality, documented by the initial SMS from May 12th, 2009. Today, almost exactly one year later, we can confirm that this experiment was a success. Following the documentary-style introduction comes a classic black and white range of scenes which lead to the center of the story: bathtub, sink, bubbles, beer foam, shaving cream, welcome to the bar. Mira83 meets up with a mystery man -- "You'll recognize me by the red shoes." But that is irrelevant in the black and white film, just as irrelevant as the "truth" written on MySpace is irrelevant compared to the here and now.
In the end, liquor is served at the bar. The story is so fascinating that the question of authenticity automatically takes a back seat to the genuineness of the characters. A film -- in which credits take up to almost a third of screen-time -- that still makes you want to keep opening the nesting dolls -- to keep discovering more inside.
Maybe the relationship between our MySpace profiles and reality correlates to the relationship between a fictional film and a documentary. MIRA83 proves that a combination of both is possible, bringing current social issues closer to people in the process; even though the protagonist admirably shows that the way you deal with tragedy is the main point, and that every problem has to be observed in a relative light. "If I told him that that's the truth, wouldn't this be a documentary?" Difficult to say. But we do know one thing: this film is made award-worthy by its many levels of interaction and reality.
It has already received the 500-Euro-"Nachwuchspreis" (award for young talent) from the Sparkasse Ingolstadt. Congratulations!"
