Rysty Young's "Rose of Cimarron" was introduced to me by Mike Ryder at a party sing-along. I later heard Emmylou Harris' extraordinary version. A group called Poco also produced their fine recording. The lyrics are somewhat surreal, appealing and almost mystical. This is the kind of song that lends itself to many chord and melody variations. This is mine.

  • Made me wish I lived back in those days when life was a lot simpler.

    Loved it.

  • Very kind, Michele. I, myself, would have loved the life of the turn of the century...a la "Moonlight Bay" or "By The Light of The Silvery Moon" rather than riding the lone prairie. Ah, elegance and taste! We all miss it. Semi-anachronistic John

  • john-i was waiting for john wayne or gary cooper to arrive in there -sounds ok to me -your other comments are fair-i agree that your clips are getting addictive-4 from me-barry

  • Thanks, Barry...but hard to beat "Ride Away - Theme from 'The Searchers'" or High Noon" to harken up the Duke or Coop. Regards, John

  • Hi John,

A really great effort on this song!!! A bit over modulated in some places, but still worthy of 5*****!!! :o) I loved the banjo, and harmonica blend with the guitar...along with your voice(s)!!!

    Best Regards,

    Dwayne

  • Thanks much, Dwayne. Nothing like that doggone over-modulation to stop the Cimarron from rolling on. Cordially, John

  • Well, John, you are really good! Maybe it is new amps you need? I can really find nothing to criticize except the sound quality. Very fondly, Claudia

  • Very kind words, nob49. Still haven't figured out this roll-on ballad. Cordially, John

  • I love your version John. Have lost count of the number of times I've listened to it. I get lost in it with scenes of some lonely cowboy ambling along the trail with also, dare I say this, images of the film "Deliverance" springing to mind. Think that must be the banjo sound that does that. I'm in no way musically minded I like all sorts from classical to club mixes but this version is fantastic. Congratulations John...good post. Nobby

  • This version is strangely addictive. I thought poco had it sewn up with this track. What is this song all about? I love it but can't make out whats it's about
