  • its true, it's harder to do dumb bells because you're using your stabilizing muscles.

  • And we care...why?

  • were you lifting light that day or something? cause you seem like you can do more, i've seen guys at the gym your size using 120's

  • @roberth214 ya what makes dumbbells different is the fact that you have to balance it yourself making it a shit load harder. i find bar benching just for showing off really.

  • i do hundreds on sets of 8 I've never had to much trouble with these but they are harder than barbell press

  • Yea I was there for 2 hours yesterday.

Yea, I did 185lbs without a spotter, on my 7th rep, I couldn't get it back up so I rested it on my chest and called someone over to help, wasn't too much of a help since this person had a hard time lifting it up lol. But yea, that's how I was able to do 225lbs, im not used to it anymore, that's why i cant do as much weight anymore, both my buddies are back at Uni, the one was doing 325 max at the time

  • oh mannnn, when you do your chest, GET someone to spot you. Cause once I was doing my set, and on the 6th rep, i thought i couldnt' do anymore, but i went for the 7th, and the spotter pretended to help me, and i lifted it. It's alllll in your head man, seriously. If you have a good spotter, it'll help sooo much.

  • well, if you do the same muscle groups too often, you'll overtrain. That's what happened to me. Do each group once a week, split it. Full upper body every day might fuck you up man.

just got back from the gym, ripped that shit up.

  • Also, I do upperbody workout with cardio just about every day, and rest so on or two days and then hit it again.

  • @roberth214 well my max is 225lbs. Atleast, thats what it was a few months ago, I have since lost about 15-20lbs of body weight (fat).

Losing weight is affecting me quite a bit. I used to be able to clear a set of 185 x 8 reps, and then end at 205lbs for a good 4-6 reps. It might also be a mentality issue, since I work out by my self and don't have a spotter. I don't want to be too risky.

  • oh and if you've been doing it for a while, you might want to consider doing your chest twice a week. I used to do it once a week, but now I go monday and friday, just chest on both those days.

    Works like a charm!

  • benching 185 and doing 70 lb dumbbells is perfect. I'm doing a 195 lb bench and I'll go with 75 lb dumbbells, but i usually do dumbbell bench at the end of my workout, so my numbers aren't good.

I was doing 185 maybe 2 months ago and when I did, i was doing 70 lb dumbbells. Keep it up, and when you're ready, put on 10 lbs on your bench. Don't go from 185 lbs to 190 lbs, go directly from 185 to 195. Work on getting in some lower reps, work up to 8~10. It worked for me, should work for you!
