When deep sea divers go too deep or stay down too long, they suffer from an excess of nitrogen in the bloodstream. The resulting narcotic effect is called "Rapture of the Deep." When a party of skin divers falls victim to the "rapture," one of them becomes homicidal.

  • one of the best damm shows ever on television. beats the hell out of anything they make today!

  • Great episode. Definitely spelled out the dangers of diving deep. However, today wouldn't they use a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen to mostly counteract that? And doesn't the bends come from surfacing to quickly from depth? Though rapture of the deep is really nothing to mess with and Mike did a wonderful job realizing it quickly. Thanks for sharing another great episode of a classic series.

  • As a youngster, I watched Sea Hunt and Highway Patrol that kindled my interest in diving and law enforcement. I became certified in PADI and NAUI and enjoyed the sport mainly because of these Sea Hunt episodes. Many of the safety lessons and techniques shown and demonstrated from these shows that proved invaluable during my learning how to dive. I am indebted for the people who put this series together to be watched on television. Thank you.

  • I was sent on down ahead in mucky water in search of a wreck in 120 feet. the rapture caused me to loose track of time and I stayed 10 minutes over my decompression limit

  • @KatradioNY His pre- Cousteau antics are amazing! Love that "Frogman"! And THIS episode is on of my favs...Rapture Of The Deep!

Nothing could be further from the truth... Cousteau was diving the aqualung throughout the 1940's... One of these episodes features a "Sea Sled".. a piece of equipment invented and utilized aboard the Calypso... THe very name this episode "Rapture of the Deep" was coined by Cousteau and talked about in his 1953 book "The Undersea World"..

  • This actor is probably missed.

  • We followed a barracuda into some seaweed and he put his hand in my trunks and touched me.

  • The exam process reminds me of the old NAUI certification

  • Nitergeon Narcotisis is from nitrogen but from the depth you start to feel it around 100 feet no matter how long you have been down or how much you have absorbed. The bends or Decompression sickness is from nitrogen in your blood and accending too fast along with many other factors.

  • "you are over thirty, my darling" LOL gimme a break.
