In response to the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11th, Aung San Suu Kyi requested that the Burmese community in Japan do what they could to help those in the disaster zone. In unity and with great compassion, Burmese from all ethnic groups, together raised large amounts of money and volunteered in clean-up operations in Tohoku. These photographs were taken on Aung San Suu Kyi's 66th birthday, in the city of Ishinomaki, which was devastated by the tsunami.
