  • I wanted to name my saloon Black hat Saloon on account of this song and my preference to black hats. But thought everyone would bash me for it, so named it the Skyhootin Saloon. RIP Rusty.

  • @circlebs1 Screw what they think, you should have done it anyway. Think of all the other places out there that are named after songs.

  • Year's ago I used to frequent Manny Gamage's hat shop "Texas Hatters" which at that time was in Buda Tx. Manny made Rusty's hat's and had an old sign on the wall that said the "Black Hat Saloon" I don't know which came first, the sign or the song, but I do know they were best of friend's. I had the honor of meeting Rusty once and he turned me on to Manny, who made two of the high roller hat's as they are refered to for me. I am guessing Manny's grandson Joel still has the old sign.

  • My dad owns this on vinyl. As soon as I get a record player that can record to mp3, I'm going to save this whole album and share it with everyone I know. It's a crime that this guy isn't more widely known. I think country needs another outlaw movement to save it from the watered down Nashville sound.

  • @flirtinwiththedevil I bought my first cowboy hat from there, jusJerry Jeff Walker had one that I liked on his album cover so I got one just like it..what a screwball groupie I was back in the day...

  • Hi Y'all! I was lucky, as a "damn Yankee!" in Austin to have played bass for Rusty in the mid-80s before I re-joined the USAF as an officer. Will Indian et. al. are to blame!!. Rusty taught me how to lead a band. I used that knowledge in Cheyenne with Pat, Chris, Mark J., Monty, and Tex to make "Mister Coffee and the Grounds for Divorce." I'll not soon forget playing with Rusty and meeting ALL of his dear friends. There will NEVER be another like him.

  • loved Rusty..saw him several times in Texas and Oklahoma..Shared a drink and danced..Good man...sad to hear he passed...he was a down to earth.. rarely do we have opportunity to share a moment in time with a genuine old soul......see him again on the other-side....Seminole County Jail was my favorite song..
