As you can see, sodium only reacts on the surface which causes it to bounce the remaining sodium up over and over till it is gone. It also gets very hot very fast so melts into smaller pieces to give you the rapid fire sound which sounds like a a war zone. While in the video it states that it was our best reaction, there have since been many more which are equal if not exceeding it, see more at http://explosivemetals.com
