@DaithiBOC Thats's not quite true. Brecht wrote it as a poem in 1925. Weill used it later for his songplay Mahagonny. Originally it was part of Brecht's compilation "Hauspostille"

@galasax - Almost! Mack the Knife (Mackie Messer) was written for Threepenny Opera Alabama Song was written in 1927 for Brecht and Weill's "Mahogonny" and written to be sung by Weill's wife Lotta Lenya (perhapps better remembered as the nasty KGB Colonel in "From Russia with Love"

The Alabama song is from Bert Brecht and Kurt Weils Three Penny Opera, just like Mack the Knife.
So it's natural that he'd sing both songs ;)
