Plot Against AKP, Gulen Movement Revealed

Documents recently discovered as part of the ongoing Ergenekon investigation have revealed plans to defame the ruling Justice and Development Party, weaken the Gulen movement and support individuals arrested on charges of gang membership.

The Taraf Daily published documents seized in the office of Serdar Ozturk, the lawyer of a retired colonel arrested earlier this year on charges being a member of Ergenekon.

The documents, prepared in April, revealed that some individuals within the Turkish Armed Forces had a systematic plan to damage the image of the AK Party and the Gulen movement in the eyes of the public.

These documents suggests plans to discredit the Ergenekon investigation and reduce its credibility as well as launching smear campaigns against the Gulen Movement.

The plot aims at urging newspapers to publish stories softening the terror organizaion's on going civil court battle but also to portray certain military personnel as victims rather than gang members in a vicious plot against the country.

The documents have drawn the anger of intellectuals, who have criticized the military for plotting against the country's citizens.
