[Demi's POV]
Sterling smiled, brightly at me later that night as we sat at the dinner table. A perfect white rose lay on the table. I always got a white rose from Sterling, a gesture of his love. I was gnawing on the insides of my cheeks because that kiss earlier today was getting to me. Do I tell Sterling? Or do I just let the guilt eat me up?
"Sterling I have ---"but I was interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Hold onto that thought," Sterling said, as he got up to get the door. I sighed, I knew that if I told Sterling, it would crush him but I could quickly explain the situation and he would understand. Hopefully. I heard a familiar, husky voice at the door.
"Um, I'm here to see Demi," it said. Oh God, Joe.
"What the hell...?" I mumbled to myself as I stood up, brushed myself off and proceeded to the door. Sterling was overlooking Joe and when Joe caught sight of me, he smiled a huge smile. I took a deep breath and asked Joe, "Why are you here?" I didn't mean it to come out so harsh but I'm glad it did because he kissed me. Sterling put himself between me and Joe and introduced him, "Hi, I'm Sterling."
"Yes, I've heard a lot about you," Joe schmoozed, "Demi's finance. I'm her assistant."
"Oh," Sterling's guard dropped and he smiled, "Come in." For the first time I noticed the red roses behind Joe's back. I haven't seen them in a while, always white roses, a color change was good but I realized I was getting distracted. Joe pointed to Sterling's sweater vest which I knew appealed to be geeky to him but he grinned and said, "Wow, what a shirt. Where'd you get that?"
Sterling mimicked Joe's grin and started a whole conversation about ties, and sweater vests. My mouth hung in shock as Sterling led Joe to the living room.
Joe excused himself and made his way back to me, "Hey, I'm here to apologize."
"You, apologizing?" I teased.
"Here," Joe said, giving me the flowers, "I'm sorry I kissed you. Force of habit." I smiled sweetly at the flowers.
"It's okay, why don't you stay for dinner?" I asked.
"Nah," Joe refused, "I'll leave you and your fiancé to yourselves."
"Okay, I know you don't like him—" I started.
Joe cut me off and said, "He just doesn't seem like your type. You need a strong man, not a coward like him." And then he quickly added, "No offense."
"Bye," I reminded him. I was so eager for him to leave.
Joe chuckled, "Bye." And then walked out the front door.
i loved it :)
