OCEANUS project "An Other Naples", aimed at documenting, by means of photographs and video, the extraordinary biodiversity of the sea bottom in the Gulf of Naples, together with the already renowned archaeological treasures.
These coastal region saw, since the Greek and Roman age, the birth and growth of important and prospering harbours and towns. The images captured by our cameras showed surprising liveliness.
Voluntary divers share with us the emotion of documenting these undersea wonders assisted and guided by Oceanus staff.
Pictures and video material will be made available to agencies and associations interested in using it for educational purposes.

Pozzuoli, Naples, a territory that has its roots in myth and that has conquered an important spot in history. The “land of the fire”, of which Homer and Virgil wrote about, is an enormous vulcanic area created by numerous craters among which the only one still active is the Solfatara.

How did the statues and mosaics come to be underwater?

@infoonscubadiving Bradisim. Episodes of dramatic uplift and subsidence within the caldera have occurred since Roman times. Evidence of this can be seen at many places, e.g. at the submerged ruins of a Roman city offshore the small town of Baia.
