Merlon, Frank, John, and 'Little' Ben Norfleet were the extended family that made up the Chicago group The Cheers. As with many a R&B group, they started in the Gospel field. Their big hit was (I'm Not Ready To)Settle Down in '66. They have the somewhat dubious honor of releasing the last single on the fabled Okeh label in 1970. This record from '69 proves that these talented guys should have faired better than hopping from one indie label to another. As it turns out, they put out 2 of the best late 60's records Okeh produced, only to have the label collapse from under them. You really can appreciate all of these guys on this cut. Everyone a Singer! Truly an underrated group from the Soul era. The Cheers deserved more success and attention. Enjoy this fine track from the heyday of Chicago Soul.
