The Tree of Life hits theaters on May 27th, 2011.

Cast: Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Sean Penn, Fiona Shaw, Crystal Mantecon, Tamara Jolaine, Joanna Going, Jackson Hurst

From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as "Badlands", "Days of Heaven" and "The Thin Red Line", "The Tree of Life" is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

well.. I watched this because I wanted to find some views about God, existentialism, the universe, meaning of life, etc.. and I can say that I was a little bit frustrated after watching maybe because of it's complexity.

And this choice is part of the meaning of life for human beings. We've been granted this at a level that no other animal has (at least on Earth) and we can experience greater and more amazing things because of this choice.

The movie delves into how the way of nature fucks up children (Jack from his domineering father) and how his mother represents the way of grace and compassion. And how love can save us all and make us happy if we just make the choice to live it in our lives. Hope that helps

what didn't you understand about it?

It's about the choices we have as humans in this lifetime. We can choose the way of nature (to be selfish, egotistical, use others for gain) which is the path most people take, but doesn't lead to happiness. Then there's the way of grace, which is the way of God, love, happiness, compassion, which is the path most don't take. Hence them asking God why does he let bad things happen if he's so good in the movie. Fact is God gives us a choice.

I didn't find it very complex to be honest.

    The concepts are simple really.

"It became very clear to me that I was so intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself.” Now you found one, Brad. The movie is beautiful, so is your family.
