The Tree of Life hits theaters on May 27th, 2011.

Cast: Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Sean Penn, Fiona Shaw, Crystal Mantecon, Tamara Jolaine, Joanna Going, Jackson Hurst

From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as "Badlands", "Days of Heaven" and "The Thin Red Line", "The Tree of Life" is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

  • The most deserving film of the oscars

  • I can understand why a lot of people didn't like this film, but it was a revelation for me. The sequence with the babies growing up and the bits of their world they take in- a light on the wall, the feel of grass, the touch of a mother- it was like watching my own first memories on a screen before me. Incredible.

  • This movie is full of Satanic messages and should be avoided at all costs! - Reverend Peter Blakeley.

  • piece of crap religious bullshit movie

  • @juanjillocr Storytereelling. Apparently someone dies, we don't know how or see when. The flashback of the house where the movie takes places seems meaningless because the person who dies doesn't die there. Also apparently it is set on fire and also flooded somehow. One of the kids isn't important in the movie at all, random images toward the end, plus a billion other random/confusing moments. I was actually paying attention too and analyzing. I got most of it, but I just can't blame myself.

  • This film was robbed big time, it's the real winner for best cinematography at the academies

  • @earlyatnite couldn't agree with you more, at least cinematography

  • i don't understand the trailer, and i haven't seen the movie. someone care to explain please?

  • Emanuel Lubezki deserved the Oscar for best Cinematography.

  • Art.

  • Too bad this was snubbed last night.
